Historic Environment Farm Environment Record Portal
This website allows farmers and land managers applying to the Mid-Tier Countryside Stewardship or the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme to request a Historic Environment Farm Environment Record (HEFER) for their holding.
The requirements for each scheme are different, so please make sure you request the correct HEFER for the scheme you are applying for.
The HEFER lists the known historic and archaeological features on a land holding and provides advice on how to protect and enhance them. It may include information about:
- Scheduled Monuments;
- Registered Parks and Gardens and Registered Battlefields; and
- non-designated historic and archaeological features, known as SHINE features, which have been created by your local authority Historic Environment Record (HER).
Applicants should register to use this website, and will be sent an email to confirm their registration.
From February 2022 all Mid Tier online CS customers need to request a CS HEFER. For Higher Tier CS customers, and Mid Tier CS customers who have requested an application pack by telephone from RPA, the process has not changed and RPA will request a HEFER on your behalf.
Once registered, customers can request a CS HEFER by entering their Single Business Identifier (SBI) and will receive an email when the HEFER pack is available for download. If your land has a Scheduled Monument, Registered Park or Garden or Registered Battlefield the CS HEFER may take up to 20 working days to arrive.
From June 2022 Sustainable Farming Incentive applicants, once registered, can request a SFI HEFER by entering their Single Business Identifier (SBI) and will receive an email when the HEFER is available for download.
