Historic Environment Farm Environment Record Portal
This website allows farmers and land managers applying to the Mid Tier Countryside Stewardship scheme to request a Historic Environment Farm Environment Record (CS HEFER) for their holding. It also allows farmers applying for the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) to request an SFI HEFER. It will be possible to request an SFI HEFER when SFI applications open, which is expected to be from June 2022.
From February 2022 all Mid Tier online CS customers need to request a CS HEFER. For Higher Tier CS customers, and Mid Tier CS customers who have requested an application pack from RPA, the process has not changed and RPA will request a HEFER on your behalf.
The CS HEFER lists the known historic and archaeological features on a land holding and provides advice on how to protect and enhance them. The HEFER may comprise information about:
- Scheduled Monuments;
- Registered Parks and Gardens and Registered Battlefields; and
- non-designated historic and archaeological features, known as SHINE features, which have been created by your local authority Historic Environment Record (HER).
Applicants should register to use this website, and will be sent an email to confirm their registration.
Once registered, customers can request a CS HEFER by entering their Single Business Identifier (SBI) and will receive an email when the HEFER pack is available for download. If your land has a Scheduled Monument, Registered Park or Garden or Registered Battlefield the HEFER may take up to 20 working days to arrive.
